"WHERE IS MY FUR?"

HOW THE MODULE WORKS: from story to real action

Step 1: Read & Explore

Children read Korzhyk's story, then use the Emotion Map to identify and name feelings — their own and the character's.

The module is built on SEL (Social Emotional Learning) principles — the framework used in over half of US schools. The book opens a conversation about change, acceptance, and inner strength. The Emotion Map turns abstract emotions into something children can point to, discuss, and understand.

Step 2: Learn & Practice

Using the "Language of Support" guide, children learn how to express care support card— then write real Support Cards to kids undergoing treatment Real impact.

This is where empathy stops being a concept and becomes an action. Children practice supportive phrases, then write personal cards of warmth to children in pediatric oncology wards. Each card is delivered alongside a donated book. So the lesson doesn't end in the classroom — it reaches a child who needs it most.

For Educators & Parents

The kit includes a ready-to-use lesson plan — no special training required. Designed for a 45–60 minute session.

The Adult Methodology Guide provides a structured lesson scenario with discussion prompts, activity instructions, and tips for different age groups. Works for kindergarten teachers, school counselors, psychologists, and parents at home. Just open the kit and start — everything you need is inside.

Here are a few MOMENTS FROM THE BOOK

Through warm, playful dialogues, Korzhyk's story gently explains what alopecia is, why hair can fall out, and — most importantly — that a child going through this is not alone, not broken, and not less worthy of love.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT

What Children Learn From Korzhyk's Story

Korzhyk is a playful little dog who suddenly starts losing his fur. Scared and confused, he goes on a journey to find out why — and discovers something bigger than answers.

Through his adventures, children learn to:

• Talk about feelings instead of hiding them
• Trust doctors and ask for help without fear
• Support a friend who looks or feels different
• See that real beauty comes from kindness, not appearance

The story is built on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) principles and addresses five core skills: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

  • Why does the child's hair fall out?
  • Is alopecia in children treatable?
  • the cake supports the child

What Parents and Educators Are Saying

The book is already being used by families, educators, and psychologists in Ukraine, Canada, and beyond. Here's what they share about the experience.

The book is beautifully made — vibrant illustrations, charismatic characters, and a story that draws you in right away. My favorite was Stas the Sphynx — such a memorable character! Everything is explained clearly and gently. This is exactly the kind of book children need❤️

Anastasia Velko

Thank you so much for the book — it was such a thoughtful gift. It means a lot that Dr. Novosilska cares not only about medical treatment but also about a child's emotional well-being. This book gave our family a way to talk about something that felt too big for words🙏

Victoria Yasinivna

We read the book and it hit so close to home. Our family went through the same confusion — relatives suggesting random remedies, misdiagnosing it as something else, insisting we just cut the hair. It was overwhelming. This book finally put into words what our child was going through — and helped us all understand it better.

Kateryna Todos
We absolutely love this book! It's funny, warm, and full of meaningful lessons — our daughter asked us to read it again and again. We've read it three times today already! 😅

Thank you for creating something that makes children laugh and learn at the same time❤️

Dr. Myroslava Novosilska — The Physician Behind the Story

Myroslava Novosilska, MD, PhD, is a dermatologist-oncologist and hair restoration surgeon who works daily with children and adults experiencing hair loss.

She is the President of the Ukrainian Association of Surgical Hair Restoration, an associate member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), and co-founder of the Global Hair Loss Summit. Author of 16+ scientific publications and 1 patent in hair loss treatment. In 2025, Dr. Novosilska was granted a U.S. EB-1A Extraordinary Ability Visa — a distinction reserved for professionals with internationally recognized expertise.

She created "Where Is My Fur?" because she saw that her patients' children needed more than medicine. They needed a way to understand what was happening, to feel less alone, and to know that losing hair doesn't mean losing who you are.

The children's book "Where's My Fur?" is a unique initiative aimed at supporting children in difficult circumstances. The book is based on inspiration, scientific approaches and a desire to reduce stress in children through magical stories and practical recommendations.
She also actively collaborates with charities to distribute the book to children who need it most. Her mission is not only to treat hair, but also to help children find inner strength in the darkest times.

Project Mission

Buy One — Give One: How Every Purchase Creates Impact

Our model is simple: when you buy one book or educational kit, we provide another one — for free — to a child undergoing cancer treatment in a pediatric oncology ward.

Along with the book, children in hospitals receive a Support Card written by another child who completed the empathy lesson.

So every purchase sets off a chain: a classroom learns empathy, a child in treatment receives a book and a handwritten message of support, and a family gets a tool to talk about difficult feelings..

This is not just a donation. It's a cycle of care that connects healthy children, children in treatment, educators, and families.

Our mission

  • Three audiences, one ecosystem

    • FOR CHILDREN WITH HAIR LOSS
We support children with alopecia, cancer-related hair loss, or stress-induced hair loss — helping reduce isolation, shame, and stigma. Through Korzhyk's story, they see themselves and learn: you are not alone, this can be treated, and you are not defined by your appearance.
    • FOR CHILDREN IN CANCER TREATMENT
Through book donations and Support Cards delivered to pediatric oncology wards, we help children in treatment feel seen, valued, and less alone. Every educational kit purchased funds a free book for a child in the hospital.
    • FOR ALL CHILDREN
The empathy module teaches every child — in any kindergarten, school, or family — to recognize emotions, practice the language of support, and accept differences. This reduces bullying and builds a safer, kinder environment for everyone.
    • We support children with alopecia and after chemotherapy.
    • We are distributing a therapeutic book in hospitals, schools and families.
    • We help parents have a dialogue with their child about self-esteem.
    • Reducing stigma around childhood alopecia in society.
    • Uniting the community around compassion, empathy and acceptance.
    • We organize free events for children in different cities and countries.
    • Building an international support cycle around the topic of childhood alopecia and visual diversity.
"Where Is My Fur?" is a nonprofit charitable-educational initiative. The project was created by Dr. Myroslava Novosilska and is carried out with the support of educators, psychologists, and volunteers across Ukraine, Canada, and the United States.

"Where is my fur?"

A children’s book about alopecia that brings support, empathy, and the strength to be yourself.

  • Along with it, confidence, the desire to look in the mirror, and the feeling of being loved can fade away. That’s why the book “Where Is My Fur?” was created — a warm, therapeutic fairy tale about childhood alopecia that helps children accept themselves, not be afraid of change, and find new sources of strength.

    the child draws

The main character, a little dog named Korzhyk, suddenly realizes his fur is disappearing. But instead of hiding or seeking magic cures, he embarks on a journey for answers. Along the way, he meets friends, learns the importance of trusting doctors, and discovers the most important truth: real beauty is not what’s outside — it’s what’s inside.

What to see in Krakow with kids

Book "Where Is My Fur?" is a powerful tool for building emotional intelligence and empathy in children. It teaches:

    – not to laugh at those who are different;
    – to ask questions instead of making assumptions;
    – to be a friend, not a judge.
For adults, the book creates an opportunity to share a reading experience that opens the door to conversations about the deeper things in life: humanity, acceptance, and compassion.
